The existing National Agricultural Policy was adopted in April 1999, and later redrafted (Agriculture Policy 2010). It aims to enhance crop productivity, profitability and employment in rural areas and to improve the wellbeing of the poor. The new agriculture policy outlines strategies so that agricultural lands are protected, the decline of biodiversity is arrested, and natural disasters including droughts and floods affecting agriculture resources can be addressed.
