National Fisheries Policy (1998)

The National Fisheries Policy, formulated by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL), intends to enhance fish production in the country from inland marine sources, and increase foreign currency earnings from the sector for economic growth, whilst maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity conservation. Different threats to fisheries such as population pressure, construction of infrastructure in the floodplains, pollution from fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides, are identified in the policy.
