National Seed Policy (1993)

The National Seed Policy 1993 in addition to the The Seeds (Amendment) Act 1997, and The Seed Rules 1998, is aimed at achieving self-suficiency in food production. Instruments delineated in these documents include provisions for liberalizing the import of seed and seed processing machineries, the strengthening of quality control and  research  systems  and  maintaining  seed  security. With a focus on food security enhancement, the Policy promotes stress tolerant seed varieties, such as saline and drought tolerant seeds.
